Mykonos International Airport (IATA code: JMK) is located just 4 km south-east of Mykonos Town (Chora), in the vicinity of Aghios Stefanos beach.

This small regional airport is a strategic entry point to the island famous for its golden beaches, fun and wild nightlife.

Mykonos Airport serves heavy summer traffic, when numerous charter and scheduled flights connect the island with major European cities. During the period from May to October, the airport receives direct flights from many European cities such as London, Paris, Rome, Milan, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Madrid and many others, operated by both national and low-cost airlines. In July and August, the airport can handle up to 100 flights a day, a testament to its extraordinary popularity.

Despite its relatively small size and a facility that can be congested during peak periods, Mykonos Airport offers all essential services for travellers, including shops, cafes, ATMs, Wi-Fi service and car rental agencies.

How to get to Mykonos Town

Bus

The public bus service connects the airport with Mykonos Town during the tourist season (April to October). Buses operate to coincide with the arrival of flights, with a higher frequency during the peak summer season.

The journey to the main terminus in Chora (Fabrika Square) takes about 15 minutes and tickets can be purchased directly from the driver. The buses are recognisable by their characteristic white colour and have ‘Airport’ written on the front destination board.

The frequency of the service is variable and depends on the time of year and the timetable. During the high season (July-August), buses generally depart every 30-60 minutes, while in the low season the service is synchronised with the arrival of main flights. After 10pm, bus services may be limited or non-existent, so it is advisable to check schedules in advance or consider alternative means of transport for evening arrivals.

Taxi

Taxis are a convenient but relatively expensive option to reach the centre of Mykonos or other destinations on the island. They are available outside the arrivals terminal, although the number of vehicles may be limited, especially during peak hours.

The fare to Mykonos Town is around 15-20€ during the day and 25-30€ during the night (00:00-5:00), with a journey time of just 10 minutes in normal traffic conditions. For other popular destinations such as Paradise Beach (9 km) or Ano Mera (8 km), fares are around 25€ and 20€ respectively.

During the high season, it is common to find long queues at taxi stands, especially when several flights arrive at the same time. In such cases, the wait can be long and to avoid inconvenience, it is advisable to book a private transfer service in advance, especially if travelling in a group or with heavy luggage.

Hire cars

Renting a car is the best option for exploring Mykonos, especially for those who intend to visit the many beaches and attractions spread across the island. The airport is home to several car rental agencies, both international and local, with offices located within or in close proximity to the terminal.

Rates start at around €20 per day for a scooter and €40 for a quad bike, with significant increases during the high season.

The road from the airport to Mykonos Town is well signposted and takes just 10 minutes. However, it is important to bear in mind that during the high season traffic can be heavy and parking in the centre of Chora is limited and often charged for. In addition, some areas of the old town are completely pedestrianised and not accessible by motor vehicles.

Connections with other islands

Mykonos, due to its central location in the Cyclades archipelago, offers numerous maritime connections with neighbouring islands. From the New Port of Mykonos, located in Tourlos, about 8 km from the airport, ferries and hydrofoils depart regularly for destinations such as Santorini, Paros, Naxos, Syros, Tinos and Andros.

Particularly popular is the day trip to the nearby island of Delos, an important archaeological and mythological site considered to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis. Boats to Delos depart from the old port of Mykonos Town, with several departures per day during the tourist season.
