The first and most important decision to make when deciding where to stay in Santorini is to choose whether you want to stay close to a beach or whether you want to stay in villages with a view of the caldera, which is what remains of the cone of the island’s ancient volcano.
The sunset from the towns of Fira and Oia is one of the most beautiful in the world, which is why Santorini is considered an idyllic destination for couples! If you are on a budget, choose a hotel with a view of the Caldera, perhaps with a private infinity pool: you may never leave your hotel again!
However, Santorini is not just an island for couples: you can find entertainment and facilities for the whole family in all the villages on the island. The area best suited for young people and fun-lovers is Kamari where the beaches turn into open-air discos all night long.
The seaside resorts are mostly located along the east coast of the island, while the towns and villages are along the west side, in the more mountainous part of Santorini.
Santorini is a complete and unique island, but if you are looking for breathtaking beaches, it is probably not your ideal destination. Although very special because of the colours, Santorini’s beaches are all rocky. If you are looking for ‘more comfortable’ beaches, head to the area of Perissa and Perivolos, where you will find sandy shores.

Fira is the largest town on the island and one of the most picturesque spots in Greece. It is the centre of Santorini’s day and nightlife, and offers a wide choice of hotel accommodation.
Both hotels and flats for rent in Fira offer romantic and picturesque views of the caldera, which is why accommodation prices are among the highest on the island and in Greece.
Beware though! Fira is hilly; it has no real beach, so it is advisable to have a rented vehicle to explore the surrounding coastline.

Oia is undoubtedly the most romantic town on Santorini, and is the resort of choice for travelling couples. This is precisely why it offers some of the best hotels on the island.
It is located on the northern tip of Santorini, from where one can enjoy beautiful sunsets. The town is definitely crowded during the high season, as it is an essential stop on a trip to Santorini thanks to its white houses and blue domes, which have become a symbol of the island and of the whole of Greece.
In the evening, when the day-trippers leave Oia, the ambience becomes quieter and more peaceful. There are many restaurants in the village, while the nightlife, on the contrary, is not very lively.

Imerovigli is perhaps the quietest and most relaxing town on the entire west coast. It is best known for its breathtaking sunsets: from the cliff, which reaches its highest point here, one has unique views of the entire caldera.
The village does not offer much in the way of dining options, although the establishments present are all guarantees of excellent quality: here one will appreciate the true flavours of Greek cuisine.
For the scenic scenery it offers, the accommodation found here is often luxury resorts and hotels; for many travellers they are also unfortunately prohibitively expensive!

Perissa is perhaps the cheapest resort on Santorini. It is famous for its black sand beach that stretches for 5 kilometres. There are many beach bars where you can relax and have fun.
But it is not the most scenic resort on the island; for those on a budget, it can be a good accommodation option and then, with a rental car, explore the most beautiful parts of Santorini.

Kamari is one of Santorini’s liveliest resorts, ideal for young people and those looking for fun without sacrificing comfort. Located on the east coast of the island, it boasts a magnificent beach of black volcanic sand about 5 kilometres long, where beach bars and restaurants come alive from morning until late at night.
The area offers a wide choice of accommodation, from small family hotels to modern aparthotels, all at more affordable prices than the villages in the caldera.
Kamari is perfect for those who want to alternate moments of relaxation on the beach with evenings of fun, with the possibility of easily exploring the rest of the island thanks to its central location and good connections.

Akrotiri is an ideal choice for those seeking tranquillity and authenticity away from the tourist crowds. Located in the southern part of the island, this small resort is famous for the archaeological site of the ancient Minoan city, but also offers some of Santorini’s most picturesque beaches, such as Red Beach and White Beach.
Accommodation in Akrotiri is more limited but often very quaint, with small family-run hotels and traditional flats set amongst vineyards and olive groves.
It is the perfect choice for those who want to experience Santorini in an authentic way, enjoying spectacular sunsets from the southernmost part of the island and having easy access to boat excursions to the volcanic islands.

The charming resort of Firostefani is located a short distance from Fira, and may be a good choice for those who don’t want to miss out on the nightlife, but who at the same time prefer quiet accommodation to get away for a few hours of relaxation.
The scenic beauty of Firostefani is unique and the prices here are somewhat lower than in Fira, so it is also a good choice for those on a tighter budget.
