Boat Tours and Excursions

Given its pronounced touristic vocation, it is not surprising that Santorini has a very wide, one might even say excessive, offer of organised tours.

The most popular are the sunset tours, to see the sunset from a boat or a particular vantage point. The prices of the tours vary greatly depending on the duration and whether or not they include dinner, an aperitif or musical accompaniment.

Another very popular excursion from Santorini is the cruise to the caldera islets, Nea Kameni, Palia Kameni and Thirasia; generally this motor boat or catamaran trip includes a stop at the ancient crater and hot-water sea springs and is a fascinating way to learn more about the volcanic origin of the island.

Wine tastings

On the island of Santorini, fine white and rosé wines are produced from an indigenous grape variety called assyrtiko.

You will certainly have the opportunity to taste them during a dinner at a restaurant, but if you want to get to know them better, or if you want a break from walking in the sun and lazing around on the beach, you can visit one of the wineries on the island and perhaps conclude the visit with a guided tasting of local wines.

The most famous winery on Santorini, as well as the most tourist-oriented, is SantoWines, run by a cooperative of local producers. You can join the short guided tour of the winery and then choose one of the tastings offered at the wine bar: excellent wines and spectacular views, a winning combination.

Treat yourself to a food and wine tour of Santorini and stop by one of the many innovative restaurants, classy bistros, cosy little taverns serving traditional cuisine or the wineries that are open to visitors, all combined with fascinating and exciting scenery!

Hiking and photography

Even if walking is not your favourite activity, Santorini will get you in the mood: with its unique views, a walk along the ridge of the caldera in search of the most beautiful view, of course with a camera around your neck, is a must.

You can limit yourself to the walks around Fira, but if you want a more rewarding trek, go as far as Oia: it is not particularly difficult but it is certainly more demanding than an urban walk, so follow all the normal precautions for a long walk (avoid the hottest hours, protect yourself with sunscreen, bring plenty of water).

If you prefer more artistic photos to the quick snap and selfie of the hit-and-run tourists, Santorini will offer you an opportunity for framing shots almost at every corner: due to its unique beauty, the island is truly a photographer’s paradise.

Attending a Greek Wedding

The show ‘The Greek Wedding‘ at the White Door Theatre in Fira is a unique and immersive experience that transports spectators to the heart of Hellenic wedding traditions. It is not a simple show, but a true interactive event where the audience becomes an integral part of the ceremony, actively participating in the Papadopoulos family’s celebrations.
