Karpathos is a very well connected island by ships, ferries and boats of all kinds. Anyone wishing to get to Karpathos by boat will have to embark for Athens (Piraeus), and then continue from there via catamarans, fast ships or regular ferries. The choice of ship will naturally affect the cost of the ticket and the journey time.
There are two harbours on Karpathos, the most important being the one at the capital Pigadia, while the second, smaller one is at Diafani. From Karpathos it is possible to sail to the islands of Santorini, Milos and Kassos, as well as to Rhodes and Crete, which are very close by, and of course to Piraeus, the port of Athens, from where ships leave for practically every inhabited Greek island.
