Rhodes International Airport ‘Diagoras’ (IATA code: RHO) is located in the north-eastern part of the island, about 14 km from the centre of Rhodes Town and close to the seaside resort of Trianda (Ialyssos), this modern airport is one of the busiest airports in Greece, especially during the tourist season.
During the summer season (April-October), Rhodes International Airport welcomes direct flights from numerous European cities, operated by both national and low-cost airlines.
The airport’s strategic location, relatively close to both Rhodes Town and the main resorts on the east coast, makes it an ideal arrival point for exploring the island’s many attractions, from the capital’s picturesque medieval centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site, to the golden beaches of Faliraki and Lindos, and the archaeological ruins and traditional villages of the hinterland.
The KTEL public bus service connects the airport with Rhodes Town and other locations on the island throughout the year, with higher frequencies during the tourist season. The main line is the one connecting the airport with the bus terminal of Rhodes Town (Averof station).
The journey to the centre of Rhodes Town takes approximately 35-40 minutes, including intermediate stops, and tickets can be purchased directly from the driver.
During the high season (May-October), buses operate at a frequency of about 30 minutes, from 6 a.m. to midnight. In the low season, runs are less frequent, with a frequency of about one hour. It is important to check the updated timetables on the official KTEL website or at the airport information desk, as they may vary according to the season.
In addition to the main line to Rhodes Town, there are direct or changeable connections to other popular destinations such as Faliraki, Lindos, Kallithea and Kolymbia, although these services may be limited or require a change of bus at the Rhodes Central Terminal.
Taxis are a convenient and relatively cheap option, considering the short distance between the airport and the centre. They are available 24 hours a day outside the arrivals terminal, with generally orderly queues managed by airport staff during peak periods.
The fare to Rhodes Town is fixed at about €25 during the day and €35 during the night (00:00-5:00), with a journey time of about 25 minutes under normal traffic conditions.
During the high season, when many international flights arrive at the same time, it is possible to find long queues at taxi stands.
