Corfu International Airport ‘Ioannis Kapodistrias’ (IATA code: CFU) is the main air access point to the enchanting Ionian island of Corfu, known in Greek as Kerkyra, and is located just 3 km from the centre of Corfu Town.
Corfu Airport is a particularly busy hub during the summer season, when numerous charter and scheduled flights connect the island with major European cities. Direct flights from Italy, France, Spain, the United Kingdom, Germany and Scandinavian countries are frequent during the summer.
The special feature of Corfu Airport is its panoramic runway that extends almost to the sea, offering passengers spectacular views of the Chalikiopoulos lagoon and the Kanoni peninsula during landing and take-off. This unique feature makes it one of the most photographed stopovers in the Mediterranean, with planes seeming to literally skim the turquoise waters before touching down.
The public bus service efficiently connects the airport with Corfu Town centre. The Blue Line (Blue Line No 15) operates frequently, running every 20 minutes during the high season and every 30-40 minutes during less crowded periods. The bus stop is located just opposite the exit of the arrivals terminal.
The journey to the San Rocco bus station in the heart of the old town takes about 10 minutes under normal traffic conditions. The buses are generally modern and air-conditioned, offering a comfortable transfer even in the hot summer months.
It is important to note that the last bus leaves the airport at around 10 p.m.; for later arrivals it will be necessary to opt for a taxi or private transfer.
Official taxis are available in abundance outside the arrivals terminal, easily recognisable by their blue colour. The fare to Corfu Town is fixed at around €15 during the day and €20 during the night (00:00-5:00), with a journey time of just 6-8 minutes in normal traffic conditions.
For other locations on the island, such as Dassia, Ipsos, Paleokastritsa or Kavos, fares vary according to distance and generally range between 25€ and 70€. During the high season, it is possible to find taxi queues, especially during peak hours when several flights arrive at the same time.
Many taxi drivers accept payment by credit card, but it is always advisable to have cash in euros, especially for rides to more remote destinations on the island.
An alternative to TAXIs is to book in advance a private transfer to or from Corfù airport. A driver will pick you up at the airport arrivals (thus avoiding taxi queues), at your hotel or wherever you prefer, to take you to the desired address.
