Paleokastritsa is one of Corfu‘s most touristy destinations, but don’t expect the classic Greek village with a cascade of whitewashed houses along the slopes of a mountain overlooking the sea. Paleokastritsa is not a village with a historical centre, but a cluster of houses scattered here and there in one of the most scenically beautiful areas of the island.
We are in the centre of Corfu, along the rocky and rugged west coast. The headlands overlooking the bays and coves in the area are covered in lush vegetation; the sea is coloured in enchanting shades of blue. Along the coast are numerous bays and coves, with sandy or pebble beaches considered among the most beautiful on the island. Only one can be reached by car; for the others, the only access is by sea.
It is therefore easy to understand why Paleokastritsa is the ideal area for those who want a sea holiday… meaning sea, sea and only sea.
You can spend a whole week exploring the surrounding beaches, starting with Paleokastritsa beach, the only one within easy reach, and then moving from one to the other by taxi boat. It is also worth taking a boat trip to admire not only the beautiful beaches but also the numerous sea caves.
A nice bonus (free of charge) is the fact that it is located to the west: the best position to admire breathtaking sunsets over the sea.

Another popular beach, which, however, due to its size is never overcrowded, is Chomi, also known as Paradise Beach: it is a charming white pebble beach bordered by high vertical rock walls. The services are basic, just sunbed/umbrella hire and a boat that comes at lunchtime to sell drinks and snacks.
A similar landscape can be admired with much more tranquillity at Mikro Kastelli, a smaller, more remote and therefore more solitary beach.
Other beaches not to be missed in and around Paleokastritsa are: Agios Petros, Agios Spyridon, Alipa, Ampelaki, Lagrotta Bay.
The area of Paleokastritsa is one of those with the widest choice of accommodation for tourists in Corfu, in particular houses, residences, flats and studios, ranging from the simple and cheap to the more elegant and comfortable. Most are concentrated near the main beach.
If you prefer to stay in hotels, the choice is less, but even here you can find solutions for all budgets. Most of the hotels in Paleokastritsa are low to mid-range (1 to 3 stars), but there is also a luxurious 4-star hotel in a scenic location close to a lovely beach.
Paleokastritsa is about twenty kilometres from Corfu Town, the island’s capital and main port. It takes about half an hour to get to Paleokastritsa from Corfu Town by car along the roads that cut through the island’s hinterland. The two towns are connected by a local bus but it is not very convenient: the journey takes an hour and runs infrequently.
The easiest and cheapest way to reach Paleokastritsa is to take a cheap flight to Corfu and from the airport continue with a rental car. The airport is located a few kilometres south of the capital.
Paleokastritsa is located along the west coast of Corfu, an island in the Ionian Sea off the north-west coast of mainland Greece, at about the same latitude as Calabria).
