Are you dreaming of a no-hours holiday in Corfu? Then sleeping in a hotel may not be the best choice for you. Better is the freedom of a flat where you decide what time to have breakfast, whether to have it or not, and the other meals of the day.
This freedom can benefit not only young party-lovers who are used to pulling all-nighters, but also couples who want more privacy and families with small children who even on holiday need to cook healthy meals and do the washing up.
But these are not the only advantages of staying in a flat instead of a hotel: sleeping in a flat is often also a cost-saving choice, especially in the case of groups of friends sharing expenses. Those who sleep in a flat also don’t have to dine out every night, which greatly reduces the cost of the holiday!
The choice of flats in Corfu is very wide so you can find accommodation to suit different needs. Whether you are a couple, a family or a group of friends you will certainly find something to suit you. There are even studios or small flats perfect for solo travellers.
Despite the large number of flats in Corfu, it is advisable to book well in advance to have more choice… or not to risk a sell-out, which is not so unlikely if you are travelling in July or August.
Here are the best areas to stay in flats in Corfu, with a selection of recommended accommodation.
The capital of Corfu, called Corfu Town or Kerkyra, is an elegant town full of attractions, museums and cobbled streets dotted with cafés and bars with outdoor seating. An ideal base for exploring the island, it is recommended for those who don’t want to miss out on a bit of city life even at the seaside and for those who want services and shops close at hand.
Do not look for a town centre in Paleokastritsa: it is not a town, it is houses scattered along one of the most scenically beautiful areas of Corfu, along the east coast of the island.
Staying in a flat in Paleokastritsa means you don’t have to take the car out every day in search of your favourite beach: you just drive to the main beach and from there you can take a water taxi to go from one cove to another, one more beautiful than the other.
Paleokastritsa offers no entertainment, but the main town is only 25 km away and is easily reached.
Located north of Corfu Town, in a strategic position from which one can reach all the most famous places on the island, Ipsos and Dassia are typical seaside resorts popular with holidaymakers who want amenities and entertainment. They are famous for their nightlife (especially Ipsos), but are also suitable for families with small children.
Being very touristy, both resorts offer a wide choice of accommodation, with flats and studios in different price ranges.
Gouvia is something of a compromise between the touristy resorts of Ipsos and Dassia and the leafy houses of Paleokastritsa. Less well known than the first two, but growing steadily, it is a tourist town with all the necessary amenities and a good number of restaurants and bars to spend the evenings in, but without excess.
Kavos is the area recommended for those seeking nightlife fun… and not recommended for everyone else. Frequented mostly by young people, it is the ideal destination for those who spend their holidays getting up late and going to bed late but apart from the clubs it does not offer many attractions.
Given the young clientele, tourist facilities in Kavos – including flats – are simple and generally inexpensive.
