Daphnis Beach

Daphnis Beach (or Daphne Beach) is one of the most precious and protected jewels of Zakynthos, an 850-metre stretch of golden sand on the Vasilikos peninsula within the Gulf of Laganas Marine National Park. This beautiful bay is more than just a seaside destination: it is a natural sanctuary of international importance for the conservation of the Caretta caretta sea turtle, one of the most endangered species in the Mediterranean.

Situated at the foot of the Vasilikos promontory, Daphnis beach enchants visitors with its crystal-clear turquoise waters that reach temperatures unique for the island, fluctuating between 27° and 30°C thanks to special underwater currents and the shape of the seabed. How to get to Daphnis beach

Reaching Daphnis beach requires some planning, as it is one of the few destinations in Zakynthos that is only accessible by private vehicle due to its isolated location and the dirt road leading to the bay. This feature, far from being an obstacle, helps to preserve the natural environment and to limit the influx of mass tourism.

The beach is about 12-13 kilometres from the town of Zakynthos and the car journey takes about 25 minutes through the Vasilikos peninsula. The route starts by following the main asphalt road that connects Zakynthos town with Vasilikos, but in the last few kilometres it turns into a dirt road that requires care but remains passable with any type of vehicle, as long as one proceeds with caution.

Car hire is the most practical and flexible option for reaching Daphnis. Local car rental companies offer a wide range of vehicles, from small utility vehicles to more robust cars, all suitable for the route. It is advisable to choose a vehicle with some ground clearance to comfortably negotiate the final unpaved section.
