If Skiathos, the queen of the Sporades, is the island you have chosen for your next holiday, you may have some doubts as to which is the best location for your stay.
The real urban centre of the island is its capital of the same name, the rest of the settlements are small hamlets mostly concentrated on the south coast. Choose to sleep on Skiathos in one of these small settlements if you are looking for tranquillity and relaxation.
One of the advantages of choosing not to stay in the city is that you are closer to one of the many superb beaches for which the island is known. It must be said that tourist facilities are still present, but to a lesser extent than in Skiathos Town. Whichever place you choose for your trip, don’t miss the many typical restaurants where you can try the tasty Greek cuisine.

The largest urban settlement on the island is Skiathos Town; the capital is a modern village with excellent tourist services. The town’s harbour is the main arrival point for the various ferries from the other Greek islands and mainland Greece.
The town is very picturesque, and by choosing to stay here you will have the opportunity to be at the centre of the island’s tourist life. Accommodation opportunities are many and varied, from flats to hotels.
Choose Skiathos Town also if you are looking for nightlife and cultural activities: you can choose to alternate days at the beach with days of excursions exploring the Boùrtzi peninsula or the Kàstro, an ancient 14th century fortress. From Skiathos Town it is then easy to reach the island’s most famous beaches by hiring a car or relying on the buses that connect it with the most interesting areas.

Better known as Golden Beach, Koukounaries is located in the south-western part of the island. The beach has the particularity of being surrounded by a pine forest, the needles of which ‘touch’ the water, offering an unspoilt natural landscape. Behind the pine forest is the famous marshy area of Strofilia.
Accommodation options include a campsite, which can be an inexpensive option for younger tourists. The area offers a variety of nightlife entertainment, as it is crowded with clubs and bars.
Not far from here, there are two beaches that attract different tourists. Banana, or Baia Krassa, is a beautiful beach that attracts thousands of young people thanks to the possibility of having fun during the day doing a variety of water sports and at night attending one of the many organised parties. Banana also has a sister beach, called ‘Little Banana’, which is the ideal place if you want to avoid the crowds and are looking for peace and quiet.
Not far from Koukounaries, you can reach the beach and resort of Megali Ammos, famous for its crystal-clear waters and seaside restaurants. The resort is close to Skiathos Town and can be an ideal place for those interested in travelling to the town and having the best facilities available.
The hotels and accommodation in general are almost all located along the beach, which is an added comfort for tourists, who can walk to the beach with ease. This resort is frequented by foreign tourists as well as by Greeks themselves, who appreciate it for the sea life and relaxation it offers.
If for your holiday in Skiathos you are looking for a place that will surprise you, this is the ideal place. Just a few kilometres from Skiathos Town, the beach and the village of Agia Paraskevi of the same name offer a range of good accommodation and a good choice of activities and entertainment.
It may be a different option for those seeking comfort, without having to get lost in the crowds of the island’s capital, and for those looking for excellent cuisine, prepared in the many seaside tavernas.
If you come here in July, particularly on the 26th, don’t miss the typical and traditional festivities for the local patron saint, the town’s protector. The locals with their sunny disposition will make you feel part of their celebration!
Troulos is a small tourist village located 9 km from Skiathos Town on the south coast of the island. The name comes from a small islet off the coast that is shaped like a dome (‘troulos’ in Greek). Troulos beach is renowned for its fine, white sand and calm, crystal-clear waters, which have been awarded the Blue Flag.
This resort offers a quiet, family-friendly atmosphere, with all the necessary facilities for a comfortable holiday but without the hustle and bustle of the more touristy areas. Ideal for families with children and couples looking for a quiet holiday in a friendly environment.
