Skopelos, known worldwide as the island of Mamma Mia!, is a true paradise for lovers of crystal-clear sea and unspoilt beaches. This pearl of the Sporades will captivate you with its white pebble beaches framed by pine forests that seem to dive into the blue Aegean Sea.
Unlike the more touristy islands of the archipelago, Skopelos has retained its authentic character and its beaches still offer wild scenery and breathtaking views. Most of the shoreline is composed of coarse sand mixed with pebbles, with waters of incredible transparency ranging from shades of turquoise to cobalt blue.
The western and southern coasts of the island, more sheltered from the winds, are home to the most famous and accessible beaches, while the northern part reveals hidden bays and wilder scenery. Whether you are looking for an organised beach with facilities and tavernas or a secluded bay for a swim in solitude, Skopelos will meet your every expectation.
From Skopelos town you can easily reach the main beaches by car, scooter or the handy local buses, while the more remote coves require a little adventure on foot or by boat.

Milia is considered by many to be the most beautiful beach on Skopelos and it is not difficult to see why. This magnificent bay stretches for over 800 metres along the west coast, making it the longest beach on the island. Consisting of fine sand alternating with small, silvery pebbles, Milia offers a perfect balance of comfort and natural beauty.
The beach is naturally divided into two parts by a small rock formation, creating two distinct environments. The left side has sunbeds and umbrellas managed by a cosy beach bar, while the right side maintains a wilder and freer character. Maritime pines grow luxuriantly right up to the shoreline, providing natural areas of shade during the hottest hours. The crystal-clear waters slope gently, making Milia also ideal for families with children. Its west-facing position makes it perfect for admiring spectacular sunsets while sipping a cocktail in the beach bar.

Kastani is probably the most famous beach on Skopelos, thanks to the scenes of the film ‘Mamma Mia!’ filmed here. This beautiful beach of fine sand and pebbles is framed by two rocky promontories covered with Mediterranean vegetation. The special feature of Kastani is its beach bar with a cosmopolitan character, which has installed a comfortable grass carpet where one can relax when the sand gets too hot.
The beach offers imperial sunbeds and a lively atmosphere that is particularly popular with young people and those seeking a more lively ambience. The turquoise waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, while the bar’s lounge music creates a unique atmosphere at sunset. The location on the west coast guarantees sunlight until late afternoon and breathtaking views of the open sea. Despite its cinematic fame, Kastani retains the charm of an authentic Greek bay, surrounded by fragrant pine forests and crystal clear waters.

Panormos represents the perfect balance between organisation and tranquillity. This elegant circular bay is protected by two high promontories that create an intimate environment sheltered from the winds. The bright white pebble beach plunges into crystal-clear waters that range from turquoise to deep blue, while maritime pines provide picturesque backdrops and areas of natural shade.
At Panormos, you will find both areas equipped with sunbeds and completely free areas, adapting to every type of visitor. The seabed quickly becomes deep, making it less suitable for small children but ideal for experienced swimmers and diving enthusiasts. The bay is home to some of the island’s most renowned tavernas, where you can enjoy fresh fish with your feet in the sand. Its west-facing position and protected environment make Panormos the ideal place for romantic dinners at sunset, when the sky turns pink and orange reflecting in the calm waters of the bay.

The small beach of Agios Ioannis has become an obligatory pilgrimage for ‘Mamma Mia!’ fans thanks to the famous little church perched on the rock overlooking the bay. Situated at the foot of the Kastri promontory, this hidden gem combines crystal-clear waters with one of the most spectacular views on the island.
The beach, consisting of golden sand and pebbles, is relatively small but perfectly equipped with sun beds, parasols and a small snack bar run by a local family. The turquoise waters are ideal for swimming and snorkelling, while from the shore there is a breathtaking view of the small church that seems to be suspended between the sky and the sea at a height of 100 metres. To reach the famous church of Agios Ioannis sto Kastri, you will have to tackle a flight of 110 steps carved into the rock, but the panoramic view from the top will repay any effort. The beach is easily reachable by car and is perfect for a combined trip between seaside relaxation and cultural tourism.

Stafilos enjoys a legendary reputation rooted in Greek mythology: according to tradition, Prince Staphylos, son of Ariadne and Dionysus and participant in the Argonauts’ expedition, rests here. Located just 4 km from Skopelos town, this beautiful bay is the most accessible and popular beach on the island.
The shoreline of silvery sand mixed with small pebbles is bordered by green, pine-covered hills and offers warmer waters than other beaches on the island, thanks to shallow waters. Stafilos has all the facilities: sunbeds and umbrellas, a well-stocked beach bar and convenient parking. The particular shape of the bay protects it from the strongest winds, ensuring calm seas on most days. From Stafilos, a path leads to the nearby nudist beach of Velanio. Along the coastline, archaeological remains can be seen that led to the discovery of the tomb of the legendary prince, with artefacts now preserved in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.

Velanio is the only official nudist beach on Skopelos, declared such by the municipality in 2012. Accessible via a 10-minute path from Stafilos, this unspoilt bay is a paradise for naturalists and those seeking peace and quiet. The beach is naturally divided into two sectors by a large rock: the part closer to Stafilos retains a traditional character, while the area beyond the rock is dedicated to naturism.
Consisting of silvery white pebbles and fine sand, Velanio is washed by deep blue crystal-clear waters and surrounded by pristine pine forests. The bay offers a few sunbeds and umbrellas in the organised part, operated by a quaint bar that has been serving drinks and snacks in a completely plastic-free environment since 2017. On the right side of the beach is a picturesque natural cave from which fresh water drips, evidence of ancient Roman baths (‘Valaneion’ in ancient Greek). At sunset, it is common to spot wild goats descending to drink the sea water, providing a unique experience of contact with nature.

Limnonari is the only completely sandy beach on Skopelos, a long golden sandy shore stretching for about 500 metres along the south coast. This spectacular bay is characterised by fine, soft sand that contrasts beautifully with the turquoise waters and lush vegetation.
The most striking feature of Limnonari are the maritime pines that literally grow right up to the shoreline, with some specimens seeming to plunge into the crystal-clear sea. This peculiarity creates natural areas of shade and a picture-postcard panorama that has made Limnonari one of the most photographed beaches on the island. The bay is well equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and a comfortable beach bar serving cool drinks and local snacks. The seabed slopes gently, making the beach perfect for families with children and less experienced swimmers. The sheltered location ensures calm waters even when the meltemi blows, while the soft backshore offers ample space for those who prefer to relax on their gear.

Hovolo (or Chovolo) is one of the most spectacular and wildest beaches on Skopelos, a true hidden gem for those willing to make a little effort to reach it. Situated near the village of Neo Klima on the west coast, this narrow tongue of white pebbles is framed by towering limestone cliffs on which hundred-year-old maritime pines grow.
The colour contrast is simply dazzling: the pure white of the pebbles and rocks, the bright green of the pines and the crystal blue of the waters create a landscape that seems to be painted. Hovolo is not an ‘easy’ beach: access requires a walk along rocky paths and the beach itself is very narrow, but it is precisely this wild beauty that makes it unforgettable. There are no services of any kind, so it is essential to bring water, an umbrella and everything you need. The bay is exposed to winds and currents can be strong, making it suitable mainly for experienced swimmers. The best time to visit is in the early morning or late afternoon, when the light enhances the natural colours of this corner of paradise.

Agnontas is more than just a beach: it is a picturesque seaside village that retains the charm of Greek authenticity. The small pebbly bay is protected by rolling pine-covered hills and is home to some of the island’s most renowned fish taverns, including the famous Fish Tavern Mouria, famous for its lobster spaghetti.
The small harbour of Agnontas is an important junction for local sea transport, as it is from here that traditional caiques depart to the more remote beaches such as Limnonari and the coves that are only accessible by sea. The beach itself, although small, offers turquoise and transparent waters ideal for swimming and snorkelling. The seabed slopes gently and the bay is naturally sheltered from the winds, ensuring calm seas even on the windiest days.
The village has all the essential services: market, taverns and parking, making it an ideal base for exploring the area. The atmosphere is particularly magical at sunset, when the fishermen’s boats return with the day’s catch and the taverns come alive with the smell of freshly grilled fish and the sound of the waves caressing the marina.
Glisteri is the closest beach to Skopelos town, reached in just 10 minutes by a scenic road lined with centuries-old olive groves. Despite its proximity to the town, this pretty bay has retained an intimate and reserved character that makes it perfect for those seeking relaxation without straying too far from the amenities of the main town.
The beach features a harmonious mix of golden sand and smooth pebbles washed by crystal-clear waters that reflect the colours of the surrounding vegetation. The silver-coloured seabed and the sheltered shape of the bay create magical reflections that change during the different hours of the day. Glisteri has a few sunbeds and umbrellas and a small snack bar, while maintaining a quiet, family-friendly atmosphere.
The beach gained some notoriety for being used as a location in the film ‘Mamma Mia!’, serving as the starting point of the path leading to Villa Donna in the film. Even though the film arch no longer exists, Glisteri remains a popular destination for its natural beauty and convenient access, particularly appreciated by those staying in the capital or arriving by ferry.
